The work

The Belgian company register is public and free, and almost nobody can use it. The KBO publishes it as a daily drop of CSV files: codes instead of words, deletions instead of history, no search. Most of what is sold on top of it is that same open data, made readable and put behind a paywall.

Firmatlas starts with an engine, open-sourced under Apache 2.0. It loads the full register, applies every daily update and turns the difference into change events — a company moving, renaming, stopping — so history is something you query rather than reconstruct. On top of that it checks Peppol registration, validates VAT numbers against VIES and puts every registered seat on the map against the official BeST address register.

firmatlas.be is the public side of it, in Dutch, French and English, with a REST API and an MCP server so the same data reads as well to software and AI assistants as it does to people. The split is deliberate: the engine is the part anyone should be able to run themselves; the platform is where the product decisions live.
